Wilderness, order, woodland, secret pathways, classical follies and water all combine
to create a garden of surprises at Southside House.
The gardens are open under the National Gardens Scheme during the Spring, but visitors
taking the house tours are welcome to wander and explore. Arts and performance
events are staged here, and a programme of visual installations and
activities is being planned for later this year.

We try to garden in an organic and environmentally responsible way, and have abolished the
use of all chemical fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides. Wild life is encouraged at Southside.
and great tits, blue tits, hedge sparrows, green and bull finches, blackbirds, thrushes, lesser
spotted woodpeckers, tawny owls and jays are regular welcome visitors/residents.

Work continues on the development of the kitchen gardens at the bottom of the orchard,
which last year provided us with a good supply of salad and vegetables. This year we shall extend
the growing area up the bank bordering the school playing fields, and we are considering the introduction of a bee hive in the orchard.
