SOUTHSIDE HOUSE EVENTS 2019

20th January 2019 at 3pm

A Sunday afternoon recital with

Violinist Elisabeth Schneider's ‘unique musical understanding', the ‘exceptional emerging talent’  of Hellensmusic alumni Eudald Buch (piano) and the 'terrific panache' of Ella Rundle (cello), combine in a contrasting programme featuring Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Schmidt.

Mendelssohn Piano Trio in D minor

Beethoven PIano Trio in C minor Op. 1 No. 3

Niklas Schmidt Strings of Glass.

Elisabeth Zeuthen Schneider, Professor at the Danish Royal Academy of Music, is bringing her expertise to local schools in Herefordshire, in collaboration with Hellenmusic, to introduce young people to the dynamic and collaborative practice of the Kodály method. This method is widely used in schools throughout Europe with remarkable results, and is currently causing a tidal wave of enthusiasm through the UK. She is in demand as a performer all over Europe and the US, and has been associate concertmaster of the Royal Danish Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.

She is joined by Ella Rundle (Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Northern Sinfonia), whose Purcell Room concert recently, with cello octet ‘Cellophony’, was lauded by The Daily Telegraph - 'Just blows you away... terrific panache’, they said!

Eudald Buch is the only student of Christian Blackshaw's who has been re-invited twice to Hellensmusic, when he played in the 2015 and 2016  Hellensmusic masterclass programmes, and returned again in 2017 to continue his development with Christian. We are delighted to welcome him back as part of our continuing support and interest in his blossoming career.

Mendelssohn's Piano Trio in D minor was described by Schumann as 'the master trio of our age... an exceedingly fine composition which will gladden our grandchildren and great-grandchildren for many years to come'. Together with the Beethoven Trio in C minor 'a work of startling explosive vehemence and dark lyric beauty', and the mesmerising contemporary  soundscape of Strings of Glass by acclaimed Danish composer Niklas Schmidt, this programme offers an evening of delights and contrasts.
